The small town cobbler whose influence rivals Apple & Disney

Published: Tue, 09/29/20

Probably one of the single most inept businessmen who ever lived… yet was also probably one of the most influential businessmen who ever lived at the same time… was the late Gary Gygax.

He was the guy who invented Dungeons & Dragons.

And this man, without any exaggeration, changed the business world in ways few people outside of the Steve Jobs or Walt Disney’s of history ever have or will.

Here’s why:

This small-town Wisconsin cobbler — while huddling in his basement back in 1974 in his spare time creating Dungeons & Dragons — created the “template” that has since influenced everything from insanely popular computer games like Call of Duty & World of Warcraft… to ratings-dominating TV shows like Game Of Thrones.

And it’s just as powerful with business building.

To prove it, I suggest reading the book:

“Rise of the Dungeon Master: Gary Gygax and the Creation of D&D”

Specifically this quote:

“D&D isn’t a straightforward board game like Monopoly or Clue. It’s more like an operation system. An elaborate framework on which players can build their own scenarios. Anyone with creativity and imagination can become a game designer. D&D players create alter egos and guide them through a virtual world. Gradually upgrading abilities as they battle monsters and gather loot. The game allows misfits to become mythic superheroes, and face adventures and harrowing challenges…But one person has to paint pictures with words. That person assumes the role of the Dungeon Master. The Dungeon Master describes for other players what they see and hear in this imaginary world, and what effects their actions have.”

If you aren’t able to fit that into the context of your business, that’s okay.

Just put it on the shelf for now.

The October “Email Players” issue talks more about the business-building, marketing ramifications & multiple applications of this in detail. Especially later in the issue where I talk about something else that made it unique.

And that something that made it unique is this:

D&D is a game that never ends.

The grand irony of it all is, the fact it is a game that never really ends is why D&D was summarily rejected by all the small thinking game company suits originally. Like probably 95% of so-called internet marketers, they weren’t able to see the big picture of what was possible — in as much as a game that never ends means customers that never stop coming back.

And it is the same when building your own Marketing Universe.

Practically everyone looks at their campaigns, launches, & offers, etc the same:

Something that has a beginning, middle, end.

Not so when you build your own Marketing Universe as I teach in the October “Email Players” issue. And it goes beyond just recycling content, offers, emails, etc to reuse perpetually like you've see me do if you've been on my list long enough. That is one small part of it. Business, in my way of thinking thanks to Gary Gygax's games Child elBenbo mindlessly played in his youth is a live action role playing game. And if you want to have everlasting business growth, profits, and dominance, simply apply that mindset to everything you do.

You can get started fast with the 4 ways I talk about in the October issue.

They are probably the least complicated parts of the issue.

But, they are also potentially the most profitable, in my opinion.

Anyway, details begin on page 17.

But that sinister ol' deadline to get this issue is tomorrow.
