How to talk about controversial topics without being instantly cancelled

Published: Fri, 07/31/20

As if the cancel culture couldn’t get more amusing to watch:

According to the Daily Mail, a few weeks ago, a best-selling children's author named Gillian Phillip was fired from her publisher for committing an evil, heinous, and unforgivable sin.

The sin?

She wrote a tweet.

Specifically, a tweet that said:

“I stand with JK Rowling”

She did this to show her support for JK Rowling, who fell under fire for committing an equally evil sin in the sunken eye orbits of the Twitter mafia that is simply too horrifying to even imagine, so you will have to Google it for the details to see why she was canceled over it.

I must admit:

I do enjoy watching the virtue signalers eat each other.

But, this cancel culture shtick is still something grownups who pay taxes and don't have time to haunt social media all day calling for cancelations of those they disagree with have to be cognizant of. Especially on social media or on any platform owned by big tech companies more worried about getting a virtue signal or appeasing a small Twitter mob than they are serving their loyal customers.

The solution?

If you MUST talk about controversial subjects, there is one thing that might help.

Something that has nothing to do with changing platforms or owning a platform or silencing yourself. Something I’ve seen at least one person get away with that would normally have gotten her cancelled by Netflix instead of Netflix giving her multiple opportunities.

No guarantees it’ll protect you, of course.

But it’s something I talk about in the bonus “elBenbo’s Lair” insert inside the August “Email Players” issue. It’s also something that can help make lots of sales regardless of if you are being controversial, political, or defying the ever-changing Social Media Mob Narrative.

The August issue is going to the printer in a bit today.

After that, it’ll be too late to get it, and will be turned off in the cart.
