Bengoolie’s secret for writing emails that bring in terrifying amounts of sales

Behold:

I recently watched — twice so far — a documentary called “American Scary.” It is about some of the most successful Horror Hosts who ever lived.

What is a horror host?

They are the hosts of B horror flicks you see on Saturdays or late night.

Movies people otherwise don’t watch, because they are so terrible, in many cases.

My favorite Horror Host as a kid was always Svengoolie.

Today, I am more of a Crypt Keeper kinda guy.

But as horror host “Halloween Jack” puts it:

“A horror host is part comedian, part spooky figure…so I guess you’re talking a cross between Chris Rock and Boris Karloff. And they’re a magician because they have to take these crappy movies every week…And put some kind of magic in them to make you want to watch them.”

And, as another guy on the documentary, the late Len Wein (creator of Wolverine), put it:

“You weren’t watching for the show, you were watching for the host.”

Anyway, I will talk a lot more about this in depth next month.

But, I also spend a little bit of time writing about Horror Hosts in the August “Email Players” issue. Specifically, a very brief overview about the powers of persuasion they use to get people to watch crappy movies nobody would ever watch otherwise to getting terrifying amounts of sales for your own offers.

Today’s the deadline to get your cold, clammy fingers on this issue.
