Stupid design advice amateur marketers give
Published: Thu, 05/21/20
A cover that was easily my favorite of all the ones she’s done for me (so far…)
And, is also the favorite of quite a few of my customers, too, who let me know.
But, that didn’t stop a blue light special from giving this unsolicited advice:
“_____ would do a better job on the book cover for cheap.”
I couldn’t resist looking at the link.
(Not included here for obvious reasons).
And, as suspected, it nattered on about how many “awards” the designer won. But the work was a joke compared to even Kia’s throw-away brain fart ideas I’ve seen. And, also proof why she has no competition, with a waiting list of people to hire her agency.
When I forwarded to Kia, she was even more amused:

Funny. I’ve been re-admiring this book cover design all over again since you started promoting it. An “award-winning” agency or designer is code for “we’re more interested in winning awards than getting results.” Thank you for all the generous mentions.

And so it is.
Anyway, there are two reasons I am bringing this up.
1. People who can’t resist giving unsolicited advice should resist that impulse. Not only does nobody want it, but as Vox Day once wrote on his blog, it’s why people actively avoid such people, and never take them seriously.
In my case, I am prone to doing the exact opposite of whatever advice is given.
My woman Stefania finds it especially entertaining when people try to give me advice “through” her… as if their idiotic unsolicited advice for me, told to her, is somehow going to get passed to me like a secret note through study hall.
2. While I like slicked up design for my books, I like ugly design for sites.
Thus, my Bargain Bin of Bonuses 2 sales page.
It’s butt-ugly yellow.
No graphics to speak of.
And looks like it was designed by a design amateur, because it was.
(i.e., I designed it all my by lonesome)
Thus, it won’t be winning any awards.
But, I daresay it’s of the easiest sites on the internet to read, though. Hat tip to the late, great Gary Halbert who once quoted some kind of readability study, proving black text on yellow background is the easiest color combo for the human eye to read.

It’s also one of the easiest offers to partake of, too, as far as price.
It contains most of the valuable bonuses I’ve offered with certain high-ticket offers over the last year, for the price of a pizza being delivered.
Deadline to nab this puppy is tomorrow, March 22 at midnight EDT.
Get ye the details here, while you can:

NOTE:
You'll need a smart phone to access these bonuses, no exceptions.
And it will have to be newer than when Steve Jobs still walked the earth.
