The plight of the tier 2 guru

Published: Wed, 05/13/20

Let me tell you about what I call “tier 2 gurus.”

A tier 2 guru is not quite a household name guru (tier 1 guru). But is like a trusted sidekick who spreads the gospel of the tier 1 guru. Is many times a top-selling affiliate of the tier 1 guru. Is often spotted in several pics hanging out with the tier 1 guru on Facebook. Quotes the tier 1 guru at every opportunity. Defends the tier 1 guru’s honor from trolls & other enemies, spends almost all their time on their tier 1 guru’s Facebook and/or Twitter feeds & moderating their groups. Builds their brand around & ties it into & feeds off (like a mutually beneficial parasite-like relationship) the tier 1 guru’s brand & business. Exists mostly to stroke the ego of the tier 1 guru… and basically lives in the tier 1 guru’s shadow, while getting a natural boost in influence and clout in exchange for their loyalty and efforts, merely via being in said tier 1 guru’s orbit.

Nothing right or wrong about this, by the way.

In fact, most tier 2 gurus I have known over the years seem genuinely happy & even grateful with the arrangement due to not being natural leaders while always enjoying the attention & validation being in a tier 1 guru's proximity gives them. And they are simply more comfortable being more highly visible & being granted better-than-average levels of influence from the relationship with their tier 1 guru without having the whole show rest on their shoulders.

Only problem is, it’s a flimsy foundation to have a business & brand built on.

For example:

Let’s say the tier 1 guru goes “darkside.”

In that case, the tier 2 guru either has to publicly disavow the tier 1 guru (and thus, lose all their tier 2 guru rights, privileges, influence, access, and other benefits) or have to go along with it — putting their own brand, business, and possibly even freedom (if tier 1 guru is doing illegal stuff) at constant risk.

Worse:

The tier 2 guru is, by definition, expendable & easily replaced by other tier 2 gurus. It’s rather like the army, where a Corporal is easily replaced by their General with another for any reason or no reason at all.

Tier 1 gurus are jealous gods, after all.

Often with their egos and wrath easily provoked.

Anyway, here’s why I bring all this up:

Not everyone can be a tier 1 guru.

But, what even the lowliest and most desperate tier 2 guru can do is start shifting the priority of building up their tier 1 guru’s brand, sales, and business to building their own brand, sales, and business.

It doesn’t have to be an abrupt shift.

In fact, I would recommend against doing it too quickly or too visibly.

You just want to kind of… back away, give yourself some breathing room.

Sort of like an innocent man backing off in a relationship with a hot but crazy woman. That way, you can give the tier 1 guru a bit of space, let some other tier 2 gurus slowly fill the void, and gradually… bit by bit… remove yourself entirely from the chain of command altogether, and be more of a mercenary serving your own interests, instead of the General’s or any other one business/person.

The way to begin doing this?

First step is to start diverting the time you spend hanging out in your tier 1 guru’s Facebook group, Twitter feed, and other social media channels, and start focusing on your own — along with mailing your list your own offers, instead of just spanking out the tier 1 guru’s offers all the time.

In my biased opinion, you should have your own mobile app, too.

This is especially true if your tier 1 guru doesn’t yet have one.

It'll be one of those things you can provide your market that they can't, giving you some more individuality after sacrificing your brand's autonomy for so long to your tier 1 guru's Mission.

Enter our new Learnistic mobile app we’re launching this week.

Here is how it works:

1. This week (until Friday May 15th or possibly earlier depending on demand) you can get a free test drive of it — after which the site will be closed down for a while to “iron out” any lingering bugs & glitches, etc

2. Use it, brand it, add content to it, show it to your clients & colleagues if you want… and see if it “clicks” for you — with no credit card needed, and zero obligation

3. If you decide to subscribe during your test drive, and if you do it before Sunday May 31 at midnight EDT… you can have it for $99/month instead of the $150/month it will cost right after that. Plus you will be “grandfathered” in for life at that price forever — including when we add our own email broadcasting/autoresponder platform and other expensive features later this year… after which the price will balloon to over $200+/month over time

Bottom line:

If’n you want to try it free, I highly recommend you do it today.

I’ve learned the hard way already launching software ain’t like info products.

By that I mean, you don’t want thousands of people piling in right away. That only makes for a lot of frustrated & unhappy customers. It’s much better to grow slowly and roll out over time. Thus, the Friday deadline to get your free test drive may get abruptly shortened without warning. And, even people who get in for the test drive may not be able to buy for a while if you linger too long to make a decision once inside. And of course if that happens where we close it early due to demand… and you wait too long to buy it after taking your test drive, you will miss out on the above savings.

We shalt see how it goes.

Really, it all depends on the demand.

So if this interests you at all, I would not procrastinate on getting your test drive, if I were you.
