A harrowing media building tale from my college TV days

One of about 2 or 3 things I remember from majoring in Radio/TV in college was the goal of a TV show is to make enough episodes so they go into syndication.

Once in syndication, the show is pure profit.

But until then, it is expensive to produce, hire actors & crew, etc.

But, once it hits syndication, those expenses disappear, and basically it is all gravy, with the producers making money week by week, month by month, and year by year milking all that content for all its worth without having to lift a finger.

If memory serves, the goal is to hit 100 episodes.

That doesn’t mean a show wouldn’t be syndicated with less.

But 100 shows was the magical sweet spot, from what I remember.

But here’s the thing:

Even if my memory is way off, you can apply this concept to your business, too, if you create and sell content. Specifically, by creating enough content, and having it circulating around in enough areas where you make far more — in terms of overall business revenues, not necessarily direct sales — from that content from the resulting traffic it brings, brand it creates, and “omnipresence” it bestows upon you and your business.

Plus, there’s another “side benefit” to this:

All that content, when used correctly, becomes yet another media platform you can use, from which you can further build your influence, make more sales, attract more leads, and bring another layer of security to your business — as well as connect with, link to, and profit from other media platforms.

The point of all this?

There are several.

But the two most important are:

1. If you are capable of creating content, create as much of it as you can as fast as you can, and distribute it to as many content platforms (i.e., other peoples’ media platforms) as you can

2. When you hit a certain sweet spot — your “100 shows”, so to speak — it should start to take a life of its own

3. When you open the May “Email Players” issue, you can read about how to turn your content into yet another media platform you can control and use to spread influence and bring in more business with

The caveat is, you have to be subscribed before the deadline to get this issue.

To do that, you’ll have to high-tail it over to the link below, and be quick about it.

Tomorrow is the deadline:
