A laughably obvious way to get clients before they even know they want to hire you

One of my prized possessions is a copy of the infamous:

“Obvious Adams”

There are many versions of it. And I am unsure where to get the version I have, since it was a gift from the great Gary Bencivenga. But, the version I have has a bonus chapter from the author.

And it gives this wily word of wisdom:

===

“One of the cardinal virtues,” wrote Emerson in his Journal, “is timeliness. My neighbor, the carriage maker, all summer is making sleighs, and all winter is making light, gay gigs and chariots for June and August; and so, on the first days of the new seasons, is ready…”

===

There’s a million bucks worth of experience packed into that little paragraph.

One of the reasons freelancer and other client-based businesses are running around with their John Thomas’s in their hands, not sure what to do or where to turn right now, is because they did not take this advice:

“The best time to get clients is when you don’t need them.”

Needing something means being needy.

And, nothing destroys influence & persuasion like neediness.

But, that doesn’t do those who haven’t practiced this much good, does it?

And that’s okay — because your Pal & Friend elBenbo has included a bonus Appendix in my “Email Client Horde” book (on sale until Friday) about how to get clients immediately — even the same day you read it, potentially.

No email list, “social proof”, or referrals from friends vouching for you necessary.

Specifically, a way my woman Stefania did when she was $3,000+ in the “red” once, with bills to pay, rent due, and nobody around to help bail her out. In her case, she had gotten defrauded to the tune of several thousand dollars and had to pay rent or literally be thrown on the street. But in her despair she figured out a way to not only get clients that same day, but within less than a week she was safely back in the black and even ahead — with all kinds of clients wanting to hire her.

Best part:

Almost anyone can do what she did.

It costs little or zero money to do it as long as you have social media or a network.

You don’t need a lot of experience (she was not even really a “copywriter”, yet got hired to do a bunch of copywriting work - and no, she did not get any referrals from me, I did not even know her at the time.)

Plus, you don’t even need to have had any clients yet.

What did she do?

And, how can you do the same?

The answer is inside my Email Client Horde starting on page 127, in the Appendix titled:

“How To Get Clients When Your Back’s To The Wall, Your Bank Account’s Overdrawn, And You’re About To Be Evicted Tomorrow…”
