Why businesses don’t hire 40 year old virgins

Published: Mon, 03/30/20

Behold 2 examples of a reliable ‘quirk’ of human nature:

* Women rarely find men who no other women are attracted to attractive, even if said man is otherwise physically attractive

* People prefer to do businesses with businesses who other people want to do business with, even if there are better, cheaper, and more friendly businesses around, but that don’t have much business coming in

In the PUA (pickup artist) community, they call it:

“Preselection”

(If you are a single guy, tuck that little ditty away, it’s very useful.)

In business, this “40 year virgin” quirk is like something I have heard the great Dan Kennedy refer to as the empty parking lot syndrome. In other words, if you have a doctors office or some other kind of brick & mortar business, and nobody is parked in your parking lot, there is a very good chance people will drive right on by and find one that is full of cars. I remember hearing Mr. Kennedy say he even has his new clients find, rent, and borrow cars just to make it look like a busy business!

In my opinion and experience, this is just as true for freelancers, coaches, etc, too.

Nobody wants to hire someone nobody else is hiring.

But they will call, nag, beg, and plead to hire those who are booked out.

It’s one reason I advise having a waiting list. That waiting list is a powerful psychological tool that can work miracles sometimes for building desire to hire you and only you.

Thus, my advice to freelancers, coaches, and other services:

1. Build a list as rapidly as you can

2. Create a waiting list within that list, and fill it as rapidly as you can

As for how to build a list:

The April “Email Players” issue gives the exact advice for this I recently gave one of my business partners for building his list very rapidly for his coaching (group and private coaching) business.

More:

The April issue also goes into detail about how to structure a freelance-coaching-service business, based on my info-publishing model, but adapted to non-info-publishers. It can still be used by info publishers, of course. At least, the ones who can think outside the box and adjust the info. But for freelancers and other service types, it is the exact same “game plan” I may very well be doing myself this year just to capitalize on the what I believe is going to be a huge demand for freelancers and coaches (in all kinds of niches), who know what they are doing, are not living in a perpetual state of fear, and are looking for opportunities in their darkest hour instead of looking for reasons to despair.

I can’t guarantee you anything, of course.

But then again, there are no guarantees in life anyway.

What I can do is give you better odds, and a game plan, and something to strive for.

Whatever the case, the deadline to get this issue is tomorrow.

After I send it to the printer, that’ll be it.
