Beyond-the-grave lesson from a copywriter who died at his desk
Published: Fri, 01/10/20
The next day’s email:
Was about avoiding dying at the desk.
Specifically, by not working yourself to an early grave.
To which A-list copywriter Kim Krause Schwalm replied, and told me Gene Schwartz literally *did* die at the desk while working on a promo for Phillip's Publishing!
(She worked there at the time.)
Got to hand it to the guy.
He literally died doing what he loved…
Anyway, here’s why I bring it up:
I got to thinking about how many great copywriting minds Kim and her colleagues have had a chance to work with, and learn from and about her “Mount Rushmore” of great copywriters she learned the most from — such as Gene Schwartz, who she got to learn from “in person.”
There aren’t that many people who can directly pass on info from the old masters.
And, when you can find them, it’s worth learning everything you can from them.
