Why I pulled out of speaking at Funnel Hacking Live

Published: Mon, 10/21/19

Heads up:

A couple weeks ago, the great & esteemed Russell Brunson invited me to speak at his prestigious Funnel Hacking Live event, and I let my list know right after.

But a few days ago, I told them I had to cancel my participation.

It certainly has nothing to do with his high-quality event.

It's more along the lines of this:

One of the best courses I ever bought in marketing is the great Paul Hartunian’s publicity course (no longer for sale, last I checked). And in that course, he talked about why he would not — at that time, at least — do any media interviews with National Public Radio (NPR). He said he liked NPR, and that they did great radio. But, he would not waste even a second of his time doing interviews with them. And the reason why he would not do interviews with them is because they don’t allow you to give your contact info at the end.

The unspoken rule of media has always been:

1. You give their audience your time & knowledge

2. They let you plug your contact info, website, book, phone number, whatever

NPR, apparently, did not allow that.

Thus, no interviews with them.

Which brings me back round to the point:

As I told them a few days ago, I really appreciated being invited to speak, it was quite the honor. But for similar reasons above, doing so would not have jibed with my priorities, my brand, or my business goals. Add that to my utter contempt for plane travel, not liking to leave my long-suffering 15-year old dog Zoe in kennels, and being more of a Baggins (who prefers home & hearth) than a Took (who loves travel & adventure)... and it was a pretty easy decision.

Anyway, so that’s the story.

I have no doubt it’ll be a fantastic event for those attending.

But, it will be without me in this case.

Burping on:

This idea of having the inner game to stick to your Mission above all else is embedded in my Villains books. Finding & pursuing a Mission can guide you in what decisions to make, what opportunities to accept or pass up, when to say yes or no, and do it all without wondering, caring, or bothering to ask what anyone else thinks.

Because it ain't about opinion, it's about Mission.

This is especially outlined in my first Villains book:

“Persuasion Secrets Of The World’s Most Charismatic & Influential Villains”

Figuring out your Mission changes everything... from who you give time to, who you spend time with, what opportunities you accept, who you do JVs with, what offers you sell or create, and the list goes on. Activities that don't jibe with that Mission are easily rejected, women wanting to bring drama into your life that distract from that Mission are easily discarded (these books are written specifically for men), and opportunities that don’t bring you closer to your Mission are easily passed up.

Because it all becomes about your Mission.

Everything else is second fiddle at best.
