Example of how to close ardent skeptics

I gave a marketing workshop yesterday (I'm a marketing consultant) and when I brought up email marketing, someone immediately dismissed it - oh, everyone hates those, they never work.
Rather than try to persuade them otherwise, I simply asked, "Who here receives my emails?" More than half the hands went up. "Do you enjoy them?"
They all started saying how much they loved the emails, how enjoyable and funny they were, how informative and full of ideas they were - bear in mind that they had only received between 1 and 6 emails, depending on how early they signed up for the workshop (signing up for my email list was optional at the time of registration)
Needless to say, I didn't have to convince the original skeptic. And I'm sure those emails played a big part in my success at signing up some participants to a $300 course. Still waiting for the final numbers to come in but I've already made a lot more than I dared to dream for.
Thanks for the guidance - without your skhema book and newsletters, I would have no idea how effective email marketing could be.
