Puzzling book launch stats, intel, and insights

Published: Mon, 08/12/19

Every time I do one of my Amazon book launches, I get a ton of insights, intel, and, yes, amusement from my list — especially the peanut gallery section.

Below are a few random insights from this last weekend's Villains book launch.

Maybe you’ll find them useful in some way:

* A self-described “top writing coach” (and she must be one, because she has the words “top writing coach” in her URL) was none too happy with all the emails I sent and grumpily left

* I continue to somehow be puzzled each time by how borderline illiterate a very small pocket of my list seems to be, judging by how many of them couldn’t follow simple instructions in order to claim the bonus videos

* According to my publisher we sold close to 850 copies of Villainous Weapons of Persuasion, plus I am guess-timating at least a few dozen or more copies of the first two volumes of the series — far from dramatic Amazon guru numbers, but way more than last January when I launched book 2, so that pleases your humble narrator

* We were #1 the entire weekend in 3 healthy-sized categories, including Internet marketing/web marketing, and still are at the time I am writing this

* This was the first low priced book I’ve sold in months, and there seemed to be a correlation between that and a gaggle of cheapskate secret guru trolls coming out of the woodworks trying to bait me into pointless debates and do the usual drive-by passive aggressive insults, reminding me of one of the many reasons I choose to primarily sell high-ticket books that scares those types away

* It’s amusing how many people (not just the secret gurus above) on my list are starved for attention and will use opportunities like sending me a receipt to try to small talk and extract free information out of me

* An amusingly large amount of people on my list are extremely corny, many with a bit of an unhealthy entitlement complex, going by the comments they made when sending me their receipt to get the bonus videos, and a lot of them had aol email addresses (i.e. probably baby boomers)

* No matter how much I warned about the deadline over a dozen+ emails over four days, there were quite a few of the above entitled types blowing it off thinking I’d make an “exception” for them, which did not happen, of course

* Despite some of the above tomfoolery, the vast majority of people who bought are the salt of the earth types, followed directions to the letter, bought early, and many have told me how they are already implementing and profiting from the book, which makes your long-suffering storyteller happy as a pig in pewp

That also means my list curation antics I taught in the May "Email Players" issue are working, too.

And, I am finding, working far better than I anticipated.

More:

I won’t be doing one of these low ticket Amazon book launches again for a while, as they are far less profitable, and far more logistically frustrating, than when I launch and sell high ticket books I distribute myself. But, the market intel I get from doing these is invaluable, and is always worth the tedious, carpal-tunnel-causing repetitive task of sending just south of 1,000 people a link to whatever bonuses I am offering during them.

Intel that is far more valuable than surveys, analytics, tracking, or testing.

Intel you can only get by hearing directly from your list, off the cuff, with their own unfiltered words.

All right, one more thing before I depart your precious inbox:

Another thing some of my customers said when asking for their receipts was how they were studying how I launched the book, printing out the emails, and wanted to know if I would ever consider teaching my book and product launch methods.

To them, I have good news.

I already have such a product, a huge paper & ink book called:

“The Affiliate Launch Copynomicon”

And here’s the deal:

In honor of this last launch, I’m taking some “sting” out of that price tag with a $200.00 discount on it if you buy it before tonight, Monday 8/12 at midnight EDT (if you struggle with time zones, Google is your friend…)

This is a very tight deadline, obviously.

Which is something readers of the 3rd Villains book will understand why I do it.

Whatever the case, to get the book at this discount do this:

1. Go to http://www.EmailPlayers.com/copynomicon

2. Read the entire sales letter carefully — do NOT buy on impulse, think through your goals and willingness to work hard, and make an informed purchasing decision, either way

3. Use coupon code “PUZZLE” at the shopping cart

(Make sure you see the price change before entering credit card details)

The deadline is tonight at midnight EDT.

If you are seeing this too late, or had “trouble” at the shopping cart because you stupidly waited until 11:58 p.m. to try, and missed out, that's just too bad.

All right that’s it.

At least, until tomorrow…

Ben Settle

P.S. Also, realize this:

My stock on these books is a bit low. That means, if you buy it after that stock dries up, it could take anywhere from 7-9 days to print a new batch up. You’ll still get the book, but it will take at least a week longer than usual if you wait too long.
