Software engineer misses the obvious about mobile apps

Published: Sun, 07/11/21

A few months ago, I wrote an email about mobile apps.

Specifically, about “stacking” it with other marketing media.

And there was a part in the email that said:

“One of which I believe should be mobile apps for practically every business nowadays. Mobile apps are opening a whole new world for businesses. That is, for those wise enough to use them. And, also, who can conquer their stubborn resistance to change.”

Anyway, a software engineer took exception to that.

He retorts:

Hey Ben

I’m a new reader love your content. Just bought your big book of business

I’d like to politely disagree with you on the “mobile apps should be for every business”

I’ve been a software engineer for almost a decade and I think yes one should have a mobiley(is that even a word) optimized website. I think having a mobile app is a bit overkill because people aren’t downloading new mobile apps that often

When’s the last time you downloaded a new app on your phone?

I think you need to consider business use case before investing in mobile apps. Maybe that’s what you meant

Idk you’ll probably never read this

If you do I hope you found some value in it

I must admit:

I did a Johnny Carson looking at the audience to his assumptions, “people aren’t downloading new mobile apps that often,” and “When’s the last time you downloaded an app on your phone.”

I can also only assume he read over the word “practically” in the email he responded to.

I will just put it this way:

Imagine it’s 1996, and replace mobile apps with “websites.”

Mobile apps will soon be the new website, and the earlier people get one the better.

Yes I am biased since I have a mobile app company (Learnistic).

But there are all kinds of companies that can build you an app.

You certainly don’t “need” our service specifically.

The important thing is to realize yes, people are downloading apps on their phones. There have even been ample sightings of boomers doing as such. And if you are “stacking” the mobile app media with email, direct mail, social media, or whatever other medias you use like I teach, and giving them a reason to go get it with some kind of incentive, premium, or outright bribe — then they will happily go fetch it with a smile on their faces, and a twinkle in their eyes.

“But BEN! Isn’t a mobile app expensive???”

Well, apps ain’t cheap..

Decent websites back in the 90’s weren't as cheap as they are today, necessarily either.

But as my business partner in mobile app-land Troy Broussard says:

“The thing is, we’re reducing the cost point sooooo much that there’s no reason NOT to have a mobile app…and is nothing for any REAL business…"

So that’s that.

If you want to test drive Learnistic, and see how you can start using a $100k quality, professionally designed and prestigious mobile app for your business… for less than the cost of your cable TV service, check out:
