The business case for the Body Negativity movement

Published: Fri, 07/09/21

Following is an email Troy Broussard and I sent to our Learnistic members last year.

It’s very timely.

And, will probably rattle a few in the snowflake generation.

But, so be it.

Here it is:

===

I say this as a former fat man who is still on my own health journey:

A switch from the so-called “body positivity” movement to a “body NEGATIVITY” movement Will do more to boost the self esteem, do more to prevent crippling diabetes & neck/back pain, and do more to keep people living longer with a higher quality of life than all the vaccines, drugs, self-help, Instagram hashtags, facebook prayers (lol), and other assorted crutches & safe places combined.

Negativity gives you energy & focus.

Negativity gives you deep reserves of power you’d never have otherwise.

And, best of all, Negativity snaps people out of their complacency, changes minds, opens wallets, and finds real solutions to real problems.

If you want to fight me on this, here’s something to size up:

All the great leaders in history were driven by NEGATIVITY.

All the biggest positive changes in history were driven by NEGATIVITY.

And all the greatest technological advancements were driven by NEGATIVITY.

Yes, everything from the remote control to entire countries being founded.

If you live in the U.S. you wouldn’t have a country if it weren’t for the negativity and hatred the colonists had for the English. If you are reading this on an iPhone, you wouldn’t even possess it if it weren’t for the negativity and hatred Steve Jobs had for IBM. If you enjoy using Learnistic you wouldn’t be using it at all if it weren’t for the negativity and hatred your ever-hatin’ C’App’n Troy has for desktop-only ways to sell, consume, and distribute information.

That doesn’t mean you stay in a hyper negative state.

What it means is harnessing that power to do great things when you need it — like Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk to help save the world from Loki or Ultron, then turning back into Bruce Banner until the Hulk is needed again.

You think it’s any different when it comes to shedding fat?

If you think that, then good luck, Porky.

One of my “concubine businesses” (as Ben Settle calls ‘em) is weight loss coaching.

And it’s ALL mental.

No, this isn’t a pitch for a weight loss solution.

This is a pitch for your own elevated thinking.

What I am doing in this email is “breaking” assumptions people have.

Some will read this email and be horrified.

Others will find it mildly amusing.

And a few will read it and say, “gee C’App’n, I think you might be on to something…”

There may even be a handful of people who email me back to complain and argue and challenge what I am saying here — which is just fine with me, because if they make me think differently, I get better. If they reply with some vapid nonsense they learned from a Facebook meme I’ll know I’m on the right track. And if they decide to leave Planet Learnistic forever because they can’t handle a contrary opinion that creates a devastating earthquake in their safe place, I will have “broken” a weak customer and made room for a better one.

This is one long riff on this morning’s email about breaking things.

This is what we like to do in the Profit Pirates coaching program — not only during the hot seats and booty calls… not only during elBenbo’s Ravings of an Adman podcasts… not only in Grim Reaper Nicole’s social media trainings… not only in Stefania’s Biz Typology rants… not only in Long John Shiller’s Facebook ad trainings… not only in all the other trainers’ calls or when coaching members help us “break” features when they beta test them… but in ALL aspects of our interactions together and with each other.

It’s all about breaking.

And you can’t break anything if you are in Pollyanna “never think negative thoughts!” mode.

Bah!

Anyone preaching that has never been responsible for a nuclear power plant.

Whatever the case, here’s the deal:

And then it went into pitching our Profit Pirates coaching program.

A program you have a little bit of time to join before the price skyrockets forever.

Tonight’s the deadline.
