How to use “Fringe” marketing to solve impossible problems

Published: Thu, 07/08/21

In my humble — and sometimes accurate — opinion, the single most underrated TV show for marketers, business people, writers, publishers, freelancers, coaches or anyone else who sells on the internet is:

“Fringe”

It is about a division in the FBI that uses fringe science to investigate a series of unexplained, often gruesome occurrences, which are usually related to a parallel universe.

Admittedly the first season & first half of season 2 aren’t all that great.

Lots of “monster of the week” stories as it tried to find its feet.

But if you can make it through those (just skip them — you’ll figure out what’s going on fast enough) the show is probably the best written show ever created. All the copywriting fanboys nattering on about “Mad Men!” or other shows being the best for marketers are incorrect.

Fringe tops ‘em all.

The reason why:

The character Walter Bishop.

He’s the proverbial eccentric 196 IQ scientist of the team who the writers conceived as a cross between Dr. Frankenstein and Albert Einstein. He’s also a galaxy class problem solver, too. And he uses the tools, elements, and assets he has to solve otherwise impossible problems.

It’s a trait the best marketers & copywriters have. too.

And I have long found the show makes for great inspiration for this sort of thing.

For example:

Sometimes you don’t have the most exciting offer to work with. Or the best proof or credibility elements at your disposal to prove your product will do what you say. Or a compelling story to play with in the copy. Or a track record of successes anyone you want to hire you will be impressed by. Or a client who knows his booty from a hole in the ground holding back progress. Or any other number of un-ideal circumstances working hard against you when selling, marketing, or doing business in any other way.

That’s where problem solving comes in.

And here’s why I bring this all up:

This is something I was recently talking about with “Email Players” subscriber and my business partner in multiple software ventures now — Troy Broussard — who is sort of the “Walter Bishop” of marketing. And, specifically, how a cheap Zapier account can help almost anyone become a “Fringe” marketer to do what’ll seem like the impossible, and solve otherwise impossible problems, to your lesser mortal competition.

You don’t know what Zapier is?

Basically, it’s the digital duct tape of online marketing.

It lets you take whatever tools you have and creatively use them all together in a way that streamlines sales, client acquisition, customer service, marketing automation, email list backups, and probably a million (literally) other tasks.

And before you even ask:

The answer is no.

I ain’t an affiliate for Zapier.

But, we do use it quite a bit in our software adventures.

And, we also host regular live weekly trainings on how to use it for those who need help in our Profit Pirates coaching program to solve what seem like impossible problems.

All right then.

The deadline to join the Profit Pirates at the current price is ending soon.

Come tomorrow, Friday July 9 at midnight EDT the already-high price goes up much higher.
