The rank stupidity of having a business like mine

But since I was asked about this recently, I figure I might as well come clean and talk about it.
Anyway, since my first day of business I have never had any employees.
I have never had any assistants, either.
And I have never had a “VA.”
Nor have I wanted any of these things.
Not just because I prefer working alone for long hours in complete solitude. And not just because many state and federal employer laws have made it pretty much as unattractive as possible to hire anyone as a formal employee. It’s also because I simply hate being in charge of people or babysitting or dealing with people in any way, shape, or form.
People annoy, irritate, and bother me as much as I annoy, bother, and irritate them.
And so I am the proverbial one-man-band in business.
All of which has made for a pleasant business I would not trade for anything.
But, there’s a hole in this way of doing business.
And, in many ways, it’s admittedly rather stupid from a long term point of view.
Because yes, I can get things up and automated for a time.
But logistically speaking?
If something happens that prevents me from getting up and working each day, I’d pretty much be as screwed in the long run as someone relying on a job.
Not nearly as quickly.
But eventually the chickens would come home to roost.
This is why I spent years looking for a business to invest in.
Specifically, a business that does have employees and systems in place.
But that I don’t have to deal with.
That way, if I were to get violently mangled or debilitated, I got that to fall back on. I went through multiple businesses like this, from a weight loss business (which I hated) to a business in the golf niche in 2015 which did not happen, to finally multiple software businesses (including Learnistic, SocialLair, and our upcoming BerserkerMail platforms) which look to be just what Herr Doktor ordered on this front.
But that took a lot of time and money to get to.
And, I had to finance it with the one-man-band business, so it was a necessary evil anyway.
Anyway, I don’t know if this adds to your life or not.
But, maybe someone somewhere needed to hear it.

It’s pricey, and it’s not something I recommend most people buy — simply because most people are too lazy and too unmotivated to do the work it takes to build the business that gets you to that pleasant, short workday, if that is what you want to have.
