How to make sales 19 years in advance

Published: Sat, 05/01/21

Back in March, while reading through all my Dan Kennedy NO BS Letter back issues dating back 19 years (circa 2002) my business credit card got quite the workout.

So much so, I half expected AMEX to flag it as stolen.

The reason:

While reading a handful of those back issues, I ended up buying some $3,000 worth of his info products — that he was selling in 2002 & 2003 — that day from their website in one shot. In one case, it was a straight pitch I read, in another it was just something he mentioned almost in passing in one of his issues. I remembered reading about those way back then, wanting them, not being able to afford them, and thinking to myself while re-reading them recently:

"Get off your arse and get those products already."

And, thus, those sales were literally made YEARS in advance.

From content written as far back as 2002.

And these products will go far to help improve not only my info publishing business, but also the multiple software business ventures I have my big toe snagged in these days.

Think about that:

19 fraggin’ years I’ve been reading this material.

And only recently was I “prepped” for these programs.

Which brings your faithful storyteller to the point:

Quality info your customers, leads, and clients consume never really “dies.” People can read something you wrote today, not have the context, funds, or need for it now, but years & possibly even decades later see it… and then buy it, when their situation has changed or even if they simply changed.

That is, incidentally, a good reason to re-read/listen/watch good info.

You’ll almost always pick something up you missed before.

Including from info products you’ve gone through 10+ times.

It’s not that the info is different, it’s that YOU are.

Good info is always new, even if it’s old.

Anyway, back to the story:

Sales can happen decades after you pitch something.

And not even “pitch”, just mention it.

Something I am living & recent proof of.

This is one reason I am so heavily invested in mobile app technology. Mobile apps are the future of info publishing when it comes to audio and video especially. Most people don’t even have a CD player, even fewer bother with a DVD players anymore with streaming options, and I doubt 1 in 1000 non-Boomers possesses a tape deck.

But a phone?

Everyone has one of those.

Even me — Captain Caveman himself — has one.

And consuming info on that phone is 100xs more convenient than any other way — including more convenient than other digital content devices (MP3 players, iPods, etc). A phone is always with the average user all the time, and rarely not more than 3-feet away. If your info products are on their phone, then people take “you” with them everywhere.

Including in the car, on their workouts, even in the can.

That info doesn’t go anywhere if it’s any good.

And you can potentially make “sales” far in advance the way ol’ DK did to me.

All right, so it goes.
