Trump and the narrative of boom

Published: Wed, 03/31/21

Since I’ve been obnoxiously yapping on and on and on all week and all day today about what I have dubbed “Sixth-generation marketing warfare” there is another thing to think about:

Trump.

Specifically, the many marketing warfare lessons from the Trump years.

And, even more specifically, his ability to create his own Narratives.

Trump was sometimes a master at creating media Narratives.

As well as hijacking his enemies’ Narratives, too.

And, when needed, imposing his own Narratives when necessary.

For example:

A lot of those weird Tweets people constantly complained about — including his biggest fans — were often a distraction for something else he was doing (putting Federal judges in on the sneak as the media hand-wrung over something else, etc).

He is, after all, a great showman if nothing else.

And showmanship is all about subterfuge, timing, pacing, and misdirecting.

No, I don’t think Trump was playing “4-dEeE cHeSs!”

But for someone who was being attacked from all sides — including by his own administration & his own party — he did one helluva job on the Narrative-building side. I believe this to be such an important aspect of business-building I’ve written about it in two books so far (Brand Barbarian and my new upcoming Social Lair book launching next month). And now that I am in Sixth-generation marketing warfare mode, I obsess over it more than ever.

Why?

Because Narrative is everything in war.

And as a business owner, you are officially in a war.

i.e., Sixth-generation marketing warfare.

This warfare makes everyone and everything that touches your business, or everything and everyone that touches someone else who is touching your buisness, a soldier.

And, these soldiers are either fighting hard for you or fighting hard against you.

The difference comes down to whose Narrative they're following.

Are they following yours or someone else’s?

This is something I talk more about on pages 14-15 in the April “Email Players” issue. It’s the single most valuable issue I’ve written to date, in my opinion. At least, going by what the info has done for my own businesses.

However, it contains no tricks, tips, or “how to” info.

It’s all strategy.

That's why if you have trouble with strategic thinking and think you are going to learn some new tricks and hacks or get some "swipes!" you're going to be very disappointed.

You’ve been warned.

When it goes to the printer today, it’ll be too late to get it.

One minute late might as well be 100 years late.

So procrastination ain’t your pal if you want in on time.
