Idiocracy comes 500 years early

Published: Thu, 03/04/21

If you have never seen the movie Idiocracy, it’s about an "average American" selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. He wakes up 500 years in the future only to discover everyone is so dumbed down he's now the most intelligent person on the planet.

We may be seeing this happen in real time now.

Recently:

1. A few “Email Players” subscribers were recently mocking an email they all got trying to convince them a no-coming-back-after-cancelling policy — which by definition literally means not accepting peoples’ money — is somehow evidence of a "scarcity" mindset.

2. Troy Broussard got a cancelation from a customer who said he loved reading the physical copy of Troy’s book-of-the-month, but was canceling because he didn’t want to read the digital copy of that same book on his phone.

3. After showcasing a testimonial from a grateful customer detailing all the ways my products changed his life (more money, new house, etc) after immigrating from Africa… I was called a racist by a Nigerian doctor who had heartburn over the fact I didn’t identify the testimonial giver as a *Nigerian* specifically, even though the testimonial I received did not specify the country he was from…

Whatever the case, here’s something to think about:

The longer you sell a subscription offer, and the bigger that subscription base grows… the more I suggest working hard to curate & test your customers for idiocracy-like tendencies like the examples above as often as possible.

Yes, you’ll lose some customers - the toxic ones especially - in the short run.

But in the long run they will inevitably be replaced by much better ones.

That’s been my case, at least.

And it’s been Troy’s too.

I believe that can be yours as well if you try it.

If you want to see how we build subscription businesses — newsletters, membership sites, coaching, and software specifically — then our new 15+ hour “Subscription Biz” program (for a mere $20) reveals all.

The deadline is Sunday, 3/7 at midnight EST.

P.S. Last month I got this response to one of my daily emails:

Effects. The word os effects, not affects. Affects means something else entirely.

Sent from my Ipad

Even the spelling police are off their game.

Idiocracy indeed.
