When you should dump your friends

Recently, I got into a deep discussion about the idea that you become the sum total of the people you spend most of your time with. For example, if you hang with a bunch of pessimistic losers, their stoopid ways will “rub off” on you and your attitude, and you’ll become a pessimistic loser like them over time.

Is that true?

Does that theory hold water?

It certainly has in my life and business.

Whenever I was around people or constantly exposed to TV shows or browsing the websites or the lists of people with loser attitudes, I could feel it working on my own thoughts and decisions.

Anyway, this is one reason I hang out with so few people.

It’s also why I:

* Only regularly read a sum total of one facebook group now that I killed mine off

* Am on only a few email lists

* Buy so few info products

* Read so few new books — opting, instead, to re-read the best books

* Hang out with so few people

* Go to so few marketing events — and even then, it’s only if I’m speaking

* Watch so little TV

* Go to so few movies

* And the list burps on…

Anyway, here’s the bottom line:

If you are around miserable people, lazy people, non-motivated people, people who inherently sabotage those around them (maliciously or not), people who incessantly gossip, people who lie, cheat, or steal... you will inevitably become just like them.

It's just a matter of time.

Do what ye want with this info.

Ignore it, heed it, or reject it.

But, you can’t say you weren’t warned…

All right, on to some biznatch:

If you’ve been hanging out with the wrong type of people to get to your goals (personal or professional), and it’s got you all screwed up in the head and confused and down in the mouth all the time, that is one of the many ailments ye olde Villains book is designed to cure.
