Dear Rockstar: If you have to say it, you ain't it

Published: Sat, 05/07/16

One of the things that amuses me most about the marketing world these days is, all the self prop naming. Like when someone logs into flakebook and tells the world, "I'm a rockstar!"

Or, "I'm a bad ass!"

Or, (my favorite) "I'm awesome!"

I think I speak for quite a few blokes out there when I say:

"no you ain't."

In fact, one of the "Email Players Rules" we talk about on tomorrow's podcast is "if you have to say it, you ain't it." In the history of the world, the only person I can think of who got away with that sort of thing is Fonzy. For some reason when he said he was cool, it was okay. But everyone else? You're better off letting other people heap praise on you and call you awesome or whatever.

That is, if you don't want to look like some goo-roo's jackanape.

And besides, it's just good social science.

Anyway, tomorrow we talk more about this.

And, also, 6 additional "Email Players" rules.

(We're almost to 100 rules, yay)

Watch for my signal tomorrow, Commissioner, when it's up and online.
