The most P-roductive copywriter in the universe

Riffing on the P vs J email from this morning…

I want to give a few examples of this.

If you missed that email, the tl;dr version is:

In the Myers Briggs test (yes, I am aware of its flaws, if you want to debate it you’re wasting your time, Chuckles) there are Ps and Js. Js are very regimented and structured. And as a J, I refuse to do business with Ps in any kind of partnership because they drive me nuts and make what should be fast, fun, and profitable, take longer, and be a miserable experience. At the same time, P’s are some of the most effective and creative people you will ever meet when they know how to use and direct their power towards something, and make for great coaches and consultants as they are idea people that can take what a J is doing and make it 10xs better.

So that’s the short version of that.

Since I believe the vast majority of people are P’s — at least in my experience — I want to give some examples of this phenomenon, and how to use it to be the most productive, prolific, and, ultimately most successful person in the room.

Exhibit one:

Stephen King vs GRR Martin.

The former has a regimented work schedule — he gets up at the same time, works for an exact amount of time, and is done. Very J, and one of the most prolific and successful authors who has probably ever lived. At the same time GRR Martin is a P of the highest order. It takes him years to write a novel. But, when he did his first Game of Thrones books, and finally got them out there, they became worldwide hits and TV shows on HBO.

Do with that info what you will….

A more down to earth example is the chick I am dating who taught me about this:

“Email Players” subscriber Stefanie Arroyo.

I hired Stefanie to edit my Enoch Wars novels.

It took her forever to do them, too, way longer than I thought it’d take.

But, when she did do the task, it was better than I could have asked for. She didn’t just edit them — she created timelines, matched up years and dates (my novels span literally thousands of years of time, in some cases) and found continuity errors, and included some other things I never would have thought to include. When I create the Omega edition of the books later this year - all 7 books under one cover, with a bonus novel of linked short stories nobody has seen yet, and appendixes - her work will be invaluable.

Same with the guy who did my novels' covers.

He is brilliant.

But, he will take a year — literally — if left to his own scheduling.

But, when he did the covers, they, too, were 1000x’s better than I could ever have hoped.

Point is, P’s, when guided (or nagged) by a J can move mountains. Which is why, if you are a P, get yourself a J assistant or, if you can find one who will do so, business partner.

The combination can be like 1 + 1 = 10.

One more example:

A person I *suspect* is a P is the great A-list copywriter Bob Bly.

(Hi)

And he has an ingenious way of working that makes his P nature work for him to such an extent one would probably think he’s a hyper-functioning J.

And he might indeed be one.

But, I have my suspicions he is a P because of the following:

I have heard him say he always has several projects going on at one time — precisely so he never gets bored.

That’s a classic P trait, getting bored easily.

Bob might have (and he will no doubt correct me if I am wrong…) 8 or so client gigs going on at one time. So, he has a plethora of different tasks — by choice — such as various landing pages, order forms, sales pages, direct mail letters, his two billionth book (he is easily the most prolific business writer I have ever heard of…), etc. And when he gets bored of one task, he transitions to another thing, and so he uses his way of working to his advantage. The result is, from what I hear, he works 8, 10, 12 hours per day… and loves every minute of it. If he was a J like me, I suspect he’d only doggedly work on one thing until it was done, and get way less done as a result, and not enjoy it as much, either.

Whatever the case, he puts even a hardcore J like your faithful storyteller to shame, frankly, in productivity.

So there you go, more examples of what I was talking about today.

But P or J, both can benefit from this:

To go with these time management and productivity lessons this week, I am also selling (as an affiliate) a line of nootropics I’ve been using for the last 12-months to accomplish more in that time frame than I probably did the prior 18 years.

(That is less exaggerated than it sounds…)

And, I’m giving some goodies to those who get them with my affiliate link below.

(US customers, I don’t think non-US customer can get them)

That is, if you forward your receipt to me by the deadline.

i.e. if you buy before the deadline, but forward your receipt to me after, the deal is void.
