The greatest sales story never told
Published: Wed, 12/05/18
When the late, great Jim Camp (who was known as the world’s most feared negotiator — and easily one of my biggest influences in selling, copywriting, marketing, etc) was a young man, he got a job hawking $100 water filters door to door in a neighborhood with terrible water that wreaked havoc on peoples’ hair, skin, and health.
He followed the company script word-for-word.
He became probably the best objection answering man the company had.
And, he knew all the sales “tricks” the marketing proles get the warm fuzzies about.
The result?
In two weeks he didn’t make a single sale. In fact, he said he couldn’t even get anyone to hear him out at all — making him talk with them through the crack of a barely opened door.
So what did he do?
He threw the stewpid sales script away.
And, instead of going into the typical sales speak when someone answered the door, he simply said something along the lines of "How does your water treat your hair?"
What happened?
Suddenly, doors flew open.
Wallets came out.
And, I hear tell he made more doing that part time than he did as a full time pilot!
Anyway, I consider that one of the greatest sales stories never told. It’s not about your product, it’s about your prospect. Their world, not yours. Their vision/problems/desires, not your product.
And you know what I’ve found?
If you apply this in your ads, emails, and sales copy you can’t lose.
More:
Because this great man passed away and joined the choir invisible over 4 years ago, and way too young, there is only a limited amount of his teachings in existence — one of which is a $597 audio and transcript product my pal Michael Senoff sells where he asked Mr. Camp 174 questions about negotiation — almost all of which can be applied to your marketing, emails, sales letters, and other sales endeavors.
And before you even ask, no, I am not selling it.
At least, not today.
And, not at that price.
Here's what I mean:
I have made a deal with Michael to offer this magnificent $597 product (which I have listened to over and over and over… and still haven’t even come close to mining all the nuggets of gold from it) tomorrow and through the weekend for just $20.
This deal is so generous it borders on ridiculous.
But it’s real, and it’s fantastic…
Details tomorrow.
In the meantime?
Rest up.
If you buy these recordings, you will need it…
