The King of Madison Avenue reveals how to get emails read even by people who usually ignore you

One of my all-time favorite advertising books is:

“The King of Madison Avenue”

It’s a biography about the late, great David Ogilvy. And, one of the reasons I like it so much is it talks about a clever copywriting technique he invented that can get even people who often ignore you to enthusiastically open, read, and click your emails. It’s not the sexiest thing you’ll ever hear, which is probably why you probably won’t hear it on stage from some stooge at an internet marketing seminar. Yet, it can easily make your product launches and affiliate campaigns far more profitable, while also dramatically cutting down your opt-outs, too.

Full disclosure:

Mr. Ogilvy didn’t create this technique for email, obviously.

But, I found it works even better for email when done correctly, because it makes it so your emails don’t look or feel like (1) just blatant sales pitches and (2) everyone else’s launch products, where they chuck out these short little emails with “last chance!” or whatever.
