My prediction on what the next hot new trend in internet marketing will be

My pal and “Email Players” subscriber Troy Broussard once helped Yours Unruly make the case for the American slacker:

You're "Slacker" email was awesome today Ben Settle.

This is something I've always talked about but few have understood. The best programmers are always "slackers". I'm a "recovering programmer" (meaning I did it for 15+ years but don't write code anymore, but also never have truly gotten over it)...

The best programmers were outright lazy... they didn't want to write or maintain 10,000 lines of code, so they would come up with ways of doing things 10x faster in order to avoid "all the work". In the end, they'd come up with much more elegant solutions.

I hired more than 110 programmers over the years and I can tell you that the most traditionally "competent" programmers made the worst employees, but the slackers were by far the most productive. They were also the most quirky and, over the years, I began to look for that "indicator" in the interview process.

Quirky slackers... Your ideal employee! :-)

Prediction:

A year or two from now, all the silly little goo-roos online will be pushing slackership, daily emails, 10 minute long workdays, etc because they only know how to follow trends.

But you and I know who really lit this bonfire.

Ooh, we know…
