The secret of the so-called “Seinfeld email”

Published: Mon, 02/05/18

Over the past 5 years or so there’s been a type of email called:

"The Seinfeld Email"

It was made popular by the great Russell Brunson (far as I can tell) in his excellent book Dotcom Secrets (which I recommend people — especially newbies read — it will give you a great foundation). I think he also credits Yours Unruly with creating it, as I wrote about it (where, presumably, he heard it) waaaaay back in 2012 (I think, can’t remember) in an issue of my “Email Players” newsletter. I also heard it talked about on a podcast run by Neil Patel (who I do not know, but my friend Trevor Mauch sent it to me) not that long ago.

Anyway, here’s why I am prattling on about it:

The Seinfeld email is a solid type of email to write.

But, it’s the kind I write when I’m not super concerned by sales.

Like, for example, the beginning of the month.

(When I don’t heavily promote “Email Players)

I think they are great for bonding with your list, since humor helps make people feel better about you (entertainers are generally higher status by default in this society). And, they are based on Jewish humor, which, when done right (like Jerry Seinfeld, Larry David, and Mel Brooks, but NOT the dumb gamma-male projection kind like Woody Allen’s), is some of the best humor out there for emails in my humble, but accurate, opinion

Plus, they’re fun to write, too.

And, if you have the personality for it, easy to write.

But, here’s the rub:

They are not the kind of emails that will usually bring you a lot of sales, in my experience. So if you are writing them every day, don’t be shocked if you don’t get a lot (or any) sales.

Anyway, that’s my take on them.

I’ll probably be talking more about these in my Email Beniversity event this Summer.

Until then?
