How to matter in this world without selling your soul to the goo-roo devil

While back on Twitter, a bloke named “MavTraveler” said something that is as true as it is potentially very profitable for anyone in marketing and copywriting.

He said there are only two ways to matter in this world.

The first, to solve a very difficult problems (like curing cancer, etc)

The second, to tell people what they already want to hear.

(As he also said, it’s kinda sad both are equally effective, and he’s right.)

But, this is good news for people like you and me.

Why?

Because these two things are also why it’s so easy to make lots of the green stuff as a copywriter since you can do both simultaneously.

Here’s how:

1. Research your market so thoroughly you know them better than they know themselves

2. Write the ad for your product *before* creating the product by (1) pretending you have unlimited “God-like” powers to give your market anything they want (2) then creating the product around the ad (3) removing any claims from the ad you can’t make good on in the product

This is how a lot of old school marketers used to do it.

It’s also how anyone can ethically solve pains while also telling people what they want to hear.

(i.e. do it without selling your soul to the Goo-roo Devil…)

One of the things I do in my Copy Slacker course (my A-Zebra system for writing ads, designed for slackers who want to make lots of sales in less time, not great copywriters who want to spend weeks and months writing blockbuster controls, etc) does, is it shows you how to do the research part so you know them like you know your best friend.

Research trumps the writing and persuasion tricks.

And, the way I teach it (as I like to joke):

“If they so much as go to the bathroom at a set time each day, you’ll know it…”

Anyway, you can read all about it here:
